April 14th

Mi 320 to mi 550 (230 mi)

We slept so good at Cherish and Anthony’s on Tybee Island. Had a wonderful homemade breakfast and visiting before we hit the road. It was so cool to see family that had a huge impact on me when my brother and I were kids.  We spent a wonderful summer with them in Carpentaria. So many sunny, happy days at the beach. Thanks Lee and Barbara! We said our goodbyes and wondered off.

Now it’s just us. No schedules, no solid plans other than head south until were tired and eat when we’re hungry and stopping only when we’re inspired to do so.

Jay and I thoroughly enjoyed putting Tybee stickers on my helmet/his motorcycle by our Canadian stickers. Feeling proud of our world traveling thus far.

Jay and I decided to drive through Savannah before heading south. We both enjoyed the old buildings and character so notorious for Georgia. We’re loving the Spanish moss and noticing little details like gargoyles on terraces.

We crossed the St John’s River on a short ferry ride. The whole thing only took about 20 minutes. There was fellow motorcyclist along with us, no helmet, flip flops and downed large Foster’s beer during transit…Whoa!

We traveled down the coast on the A1A. On the map it looks like you’ll be looking at the ocean the whole way but there is often a single row of homes overlooking the beach or the dunes are just too high to often see the ocean. We’re enjoying looking at all the beautiful homes and architecture, the rainbow of pastel cheerful colors and cute sea shore decor like manatee mail boxes.

We also enjoy reading to each other all the sea quirky names of hotels, businesses and trailer parks.

At one of our gas station stops we tried the hot boiled peanuts we’ve been seeing everywhere. Interesting. They were soft, seasoned and salty. Weren’t really our thing.

We found a little seafood place and had a wonderful dinner and called it a night just north of St Augustine.
