Segment 9 & 10

The morning was beautiful. We hiked into a meadow in the sunshine and had our breakfast. Another woman hiker came along her trail name is, Bravestone. She’s hiking solo, so brave, and interviewed us for her YouTube hiking diary. Can’t wait to watch and see her journey.

The Holy Cross wilderness was beautiful. We went over a few steep saddles, the views of course were amazing!

We stopped for dinner at the creek near the Timberline Lake TH and soaked our feet and my knees in the ice cold water. We decided we were in for a few more miles and headed up a very steep mountain. Whoever designed this section of trail sucked!! The trail was steep and so washed out that it was like endlessly climbing up a dry creek bed. Downhills were worse, constant concentration on your foot placement, so rocky! The switchbacks weren’t any better, sharp zig zags with little relief from the straight upward climbing. Poorly constructed drainage causing erosion of the soil leaving a rough rocky trail. We had to stop so many times, take our packs off and breath and let our legs and feet calm down enough to push on. We filled our water bottles close to the summit as twilight wad upon us and we found a campsite along a dirt road on Sugarloaf pass near a power line. We had cell service and called our husbands and set up our tents. I went to bed in my daytime clothes too tired to change, but I did brush my teeth. That was only 13 miles!!! It felt like the hardest day so far!
