Segment 13
Denise, our first trail angle found us again while taking some vacation from work. She patiently and generously shuttled us around town to do our chores.
We are so grateful! I did look up fragrances while in town that repell bears. Apparently they really don’t like pine-sol. Funny. I looked in every gas station and grocery store I could looking for pine car air fresheners but couldn’t find any. The popular scents were new car, vanilla and pineapple. Weird. I thought it would be nice to have little bear deterrent. I feel like me, my tent, my backpack all smell yummy even if I take everything out. We saw Water Color, James and Jerry at the gear shop today. It’s so fun meating people again and again on trail and in town, what a cool adventure!
No zeros!!! We hiked yesterday and even though we slept in town last night we are hiking again this evening. So today is a Nero. No zero miles! Which is the way we like to roll!Getting back on trail feels like a pressure rolling off of you and a calm, joyful feeling replaces it. Town days are busy and my gear gets rearranged in a disorienting way because you’re doing so many different things. I walk around stores wondering if I have enough, did I forget something. Checking and rechecking our list. We always seam to have too much food. It’s said on trail that we carry our fears. I finally sent a bunch of food home we didn’t need. So many homemade meals, I don’t want to give them away, I’ll save them for later. We are camped again by fast flowing creek, drowning out the silence and my tinnitus. I love it! We met two new hikers today, Rooster and Oat. They shared the camping space with us and we visited with them along with Barry, who now has the trail name Weatherman. The sky is clear, it’s cool and I felt no need for the rain fly. What a treat! I can see the stars coming out and a sliver of moon on the horizon.
