Segment 19

150.5 miles to go!!!

Mile marker 335.9 12 miles!

I was so tired this morning after doing almost 20 miles yesterday! My alarm went off and I pushed snooze for an hour. Every time my alarm went off I would lift my head and listen to see if Jodie was awake yet, then I went back to sleep. We were awake and getting ready when Jodie noticed two moose a little ways away from us near another man’s tent.

They were quiet and eating and headed into the tall thick bushes along the creek. It seemed like a mother and young moose. She appeared to be keeping an eye on us but also ignoring us. We got ready as quickly as we could and also continued to keep an eye on them as they kept disappearing into the brush.

We could no longer see the moose as we left and we tried to let the man sleeping in the tent know but he was surrounded by marsh and did not respond to our voices. So we wished the best for him and hope that he just sleeps late.

We crossed creeks and walked through cows and the sun was hot on us today as we walked up this long valley.

We stopped at a stream near a trailhead and a crowd of hikers gathered with us. We again dried our tents and visited. Kate and Highlife joined us along with Spirit and Batman AKA Bruce AKA Martian AKA Matt Damon…funny story. His real name is Bruce but he carries a wiffleball bat and ball and he’s a botanist hence the Martian and Matt Damon referrals.

I finally realized Jodie’s Colorado trail name! True Grit! I don’t know anyone else who’s willing to carry five to seven liters of water, refused to have her feet casted to treat her plantar fasciitis and go hiking instead and has battled acute mountain sickness now twice and refuses to give up! She’s such a great hiking partner and a non-complainer! She’s a good person to get lost in the wilderness with!

We stopped at 12 miles today because today and yesterday we’re supposed to be rest days for AMS meds to kick in.

We both decided if we just stay at the lower elevations and let the medicine work then tomorrow we will climb!

So tonight it’s early to bed and a good nights sleep and up early tomorrow!
